Hats

Bring two hats to class: a green one and a black one. Propose a challenge to participants, a challenge that they have to overcome. Ask participants to come up with concrete actions to face this challenge. Tell them that the important thing is to generate a lot of ideas and not to assess whether they are feasible or not. Whenever someone wants to propose an idea, ask them to wear the green hat. Meanwhile write all the ideas on the board as they propose them. If a participant criticizes, judges or evaluates any of the ideas as they are being proposed with comments such as “that can not work”, “I already have tried that”, “it is very expensive” … ask them to wear the black hat for a few seconds. When you have 20 ideas, propose working groups to assess how they could implement them.
